Transfiguration of Christ - Fra Angelico
Description
4/11 - Fra Angelico Series
Bring the breathtaking power and spiritual brilliance of Early Renaissance art into your home with this magnificent art print of the Transfiguration of Christ by Italian master Fra Angelico.
This commanding print depicts the biblical event of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. Christ stands atop a rock with outspread arms, foreshadowing his crucifixion, and is enveloped in a brilliant, circular mandorla of divine white light. Flanking him in the upper sky are the disembodied heads of the prophets Moses and Elijah. Below, the disciples Peter, James, and John crouch and shield their eyes, overwhelmed by the blinding celestial glory. On the far left and right, the Virgin Mary and Saint Dominic stand in quiet, prayerful witness.
Painted between 1440 and 1442, this masterpiece is a reproduction of the original fresco located in Cell 6 of the Convento di San Marco in Florence, Italy. Fra Angelico expertly balanced monumental scale with a minimalist composition to evoke deep awe. Because it was painted directly onto a Dominican monk's cell wall, it was designed to serve as a powerful focal point for deep daily meditation, spiritual clarity, and quiet reflection.
